Course Description

Graphite drawing involves using graphite pencils to create images by applying various pressure and techniques to achieve tonal values and lines. It's a versatile medium for sketching and detailed drawings. Participants will learn techniques to create different visual effects, including shading, blending, and line work. These techniques produce a range of tones and textures, from subtle gradations to bold contrasts, that can enhance any drawing.

Supplies

  • Drawing paper (suggest Sax Sulphite) – 80lb, 9x12inches, extra white

If you purchase paper from Amazon, you must buy a ream and that is not necessary.
Buy any graphite drawing paper; Strathmore Bristol vellum surface 400 or 500 series are good choices.

Several participants have purchased a ream of paper and are willing to share.

  • Blending tools – stumps and tortillions

  • 2 packages of kneadable erasers

  • A box of plain #2 pencils

Please begin with "a regular #2 leaded pencil" that is equal to a 2H medium-hard lead.
If you have a set of pencils, bring them with you.

Instructor: Brandy Proschko

Brandy enjoys many different types of art experiences, including going to art museums and creating and teaching art. Her passion for art started when she was in grade school, doodling on notes and drawing in her free time, and transformed into becoming an art teacher and helping children find their inner creativity. For the past four years, Brandy taught art in a Catholic school to help young minds go beyond what they thought they could do and create “masterpieces.” Graphite drawing is Brandy’s favorite medium as it can use a basic pencil to create simple and complex drawings.
