The course will be conversational and utilize historical videos.

Presenter: Oren Renick, PhD

Rev. Dr. Oren Renick is Professor Emeritus of Health Administration at Texas State University. Oren developed and taught “Baseball and the American Experience” as an honors course for many years at Texas State. This LifeLong Learning course is a version of his honors course. Oren also played baseball at every amateur level and notes, "My play at all levels was exceedingly mediocre."

In addition to teaching about baseball, Oren has presented and published extensively on the significance of baseball to American society. He has presented 14 papers at the Cooperstown Symposium on Baseball and American Culture which is held annually at the Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. Several of those papers have been published as articles or book chapters.

Co-Presenter: Jeffrey Latimer, MD

Dr. Jeffrey Latimer played organized baseball for over 50 years from Little League, high school, and Men’s Senior League. Jeffrey has also coached baseball for youth from 10 to 16 years old. As evidence of his love of baseball, he played in a Men’s league and coached while practicing general internal medicine. Jeffrey enrolled in Oren’s class at Texas State and noted, “It was easily the best I have ever experienced in my 12 years of higher education.”
